Blossoms of Fruit

The fruit trees are all at various stages of blossom

This is  Dennistons Superb plum. The blossom is just about gone now

Victoria plum which is still well in bloom

and the Malus Jonagold apple is just starting to come out
My only concern with the Jonagold is that it is a triploid and needs another apple tree variety as a pollinator. My neighbours have apples tree so I should be ok. Although I am still nervous it will affect fruit set. Time will tell.

  1. I tried to grow a Mac Apple in my back garden to no avail it was too shaded. Now with a few huge trees removed I am going to buy one this coming weekend again. I am so looking forward to a few years from now and enjoying the fruit.

  2. That is good to hear you are going to be getting a new fruit tree. If you have lots of other fruit trees around it doesnt matter what type you get but if the one you buy that is going to be the only one in the neighbourhood then i suggest you buy a self fertile one. If you buy one in bloom you might be lucky enough to get fruit this year. Good luck with it

  4. opps I forgot that, thanx for the reminder. I will have to be careful. None of my neighbours have fruit trees, just the ornamental Crabs as it where. maybe if I can get a grafted variety. I entertain in my gardens so although I have lots of space. I need people space as well. Meaning grass and pavements.

  5. You know what I failed to mention I was stationed in London for 8 months years ago. I stayed in Holland Park. What a lovely city. What amazed me more was all the Gardens with in the down town. Especially in that area. I love to make jokes that Diana was my Neighbour as Kensington Palace was just a few blocks away. I never saw her or any other Royals strolling around though!!!!!

  6. @Jo. thanks Jo. I am really impressed with it so far this year and have high hopes.

@Reg. I would suggest a dwarf variety if you need space. As for London, I have only been once and that also was years ago. I live about 200 miles away and for me that is a long way. In Canadian terms it might not be. It does sound though that Diana was more your neighbour than she was ever mine. lol. Must have bragging rights there though.

  7. Hi GardenerX, you can record details of plum tree blossom dates on our website - see http://www.yellowegg.net/trees.aspx, and there is also a site for recording apple trees and blossom dates - http://www.orangepippin.com/trees.aspx.
