I put some leeks "Autumn Giant 3" in on the 25th February. These are the same variety I have grown for the last 3 years with great success and have had no previous problems. I am not sure why though, they are not doing to well. I think the main issue was that I only put 1 seed in per pot instead of 2 or 3. Being a tight Yorkshire man is not always so great. This is a very shakey start for my leeks this year. At least two thirds did not show I have reseeded the missing pots with several seeds
On a more positive note. Below are my alpine strawberries acquired recently from Freegle and planted up in my loo
I have high hopes for very small and very sweet strawberries this year.
I love the flower pot for your strawberries!!!!!! I hope the trend does not take hold but what the heck if it works why not !!! I for see a drunken sailor coming along and not missing an opportunity !!! Not that I was ever one ;)
ReplyDeletehahaa Reg. This loo has given many years of faithful service. Some indoors and some out.
ReplyDeleteHope you're not caught short, I wouldn't fancy a strawberry after that. I don't plant my leeks seperately, they all go into a large plant pot, and at planting out time I just prise the roots apart.
ReplyDeletelooks like a' fancy pot' for your strawberry plant!! Wish I could grow them as I love strawberries and they are expensive right here in Kuala Lumpur.
ReplyDelete@Jo I always worry about planting my veg in one pot when it comes to separating them. they have in the past lost to much root and died so I went modular. I am quite clumsy by nature (and proud of it) with largish hands
ReplyDelete@Keats. Thanks. I think so. it stands out. Can I ask why cant you grow strawbs though. I would have thought Kuala Lumpur would have been a great place to grow strawbs
and happy St Georges Days to every one too
ReplyDeleteO yes so it is, I had forgotten that St. George's Day is a big day in England. It is not celebrated here in Canada at all.
ReplyDeleteJust for fun I would have put some leeks in the loo. It would make for interesting conversations at a Garden Party!!!
ReplyDeleteto be honest Reg, sadly it is hardly celebrated here either. which IMO is a shame. As for the leeks. never thought about that but it would have a lot of novelty value
