Bugle grows very well indeed

Last year I had some Bugle "ajuga reptans" growing in the front garden. I noticed how well and quickly it grew, so I put some round the rather barren area of my compost bin. Nothing seemed to grow there except bits of grass. It is very shaded, so I didnt know how well the bugle would grow. As it happens I need not have worried

The below shot was 2 plants last year!!!! WOW and BLIMEY are two words that spring to mind

 So I has planted some in front of my greenhouse door as I want a plant carpet there, There are 7 or 8 plants here

At the moment I am also in the process of taking strawberry runners and potting them up... for more strawberry plants. This variety is Albion and it is a very prolific runner creator

Weather in Wakefield, England today. Cool but not cold, has looked like rain this evening but none so far. No wind. Great day really

Borage, bugle and other oddities

The Bugle (Ajuga Reptans) flowers have now dropped off but this appears to be the time went it starts to grow and quickly. It is spreading all over and in every direction. I should have moved it now as it is moving in to the strawberry path!!! but it does look nice. you can see strawberries to the right of this picture with red strawberries on and some raspberry leaves to the left side

The Borage seedling are growing to. They are partially shade by the rhubarb plant, the wall, the very small apple tree and a fern, but that doesnt seem to be stopping them at all. I dont think they will show flowers this year but hopefully next. If they keep getting larger, I will be transplanting them to near my bee hives as they are good bee plants

The bare rooted apples tree "Golden Delicious" that I bought not so long bank and planted at the front of the house has fruit on it!!! I am amazed. Purchased from Wilkinson for £5, good value. I know I need to remove these fruit but I dont really want to.

Water everywhere

The garden pond in all its glory. There is a water lilly on the top as can be seen and underneath the mirky depths are water soldiers and 3 gold fish. There are a few ajuga reptans (bugle) round the edge to, nicely finishing it off. This half barrel has been full for 3 years now

It has been a very rainy day today in Yorkshire, England

This is the kiwi cutting that I took earlier on in the month. It was doing ok, then I noticed slug slime on it and with in days it was dead

Ajuga Reptans and Goji Berry

I have the odd flower in the garden for various reasons. Some one gave me an Ajuga Reptans last year and I thought it would be good for ground cover. It certainly is, bordering on invasive I would describe. The plant pictured here started off potted in a cut down milk carton (you can just make it out) and then spread all around. I put two in the front garden and they have done the same. They may be coming out as in the front they are starting to invade the strawberry patch!

I also have a goji berry plant in a small pot that is sprouting nicely (along with several others in the greenhouse incidently). Goji bushes seem to like the weather here in Yorkshire. So hopefully there will be some berries either this year or next
