Flowers in the garden

The chives are always very reliable on producing flowers this time of year. I have 2 clumps at the moment, one in the garden in open soil and these in a pot. Flowers and edible. you cant beat it.

This is my blue berry bush and boy is it small sat in a 5inch red plastic pot but with this amount of flowers I might eventually get some blueberries. I have layered a stem in to another pot just to the left on the picture, I layered it back end of last year and intend to leave it this year in the hope it will root. This variety is called goldtraube and is self fertile. It is planted in ericaceous compost (acidic compost) which blueberries love. I have a second blueberry plant variety bluecrop which is also self fertile. Although they are both self fertile blueberries fruit better when 2 varieties are present.

The last flower today is a blue iris, well not quite in flower but nearly there. I have just potted this in to a larger planter and it is situated next to the half barrel pond. It looks natural in my opinion.

Mange Tout is the only French I know!!!

I have tried growing pea's this year and Mange Tout variety called Bijou and I am very impressed with them. They have grown quickly and are producing an abundance of crop. I have never grown this before and planted approx 8 seedlings in a large pot. As you can see below lots of pea's

I purchased a blackcurrant bush earlier on this year from Lidl. well a barerooted stick would describe it more appropriately. The plant is growing well and I have high hopes of getting blackcurrants next year. The variety is "Ojebyn"

The next fruit bush that is growing nicely, is my blueberry bush variety "Goldtraube" It was purchased as a half dead just growing plant from Wilkinsons and it is coming along in leaps and bounds. I dont think it will make a large enough size to fruit next year but who knows. Watch this space.

Garden is growing well

My blueberry plant is slowly growing. I will soon be potting in on in to a larger pot but I also need to buy a second plant. They are sold as self fertile but bushes produce better with a second bush near by. this variety is "Goldtraube"

these are perennial bunching onions variety "Helens Welsh" They are like spring onions and you eat the entire plant when pulled but unlike spring onions they grow and multiply so you should only every need one plant and it will keep multiplying. Time will tell, Apparently this is a Russian variety and in this case "welsh" means foreign

The goji plant is growing well but again it needs potting on

Ribes rubrum Jonkheer van tets

I am so happy to see my red currant flowering.  They might be small and uninspiring but to me this is a beautiful sight. A very welcome addition to the plant

I also recently purchased a blueberry bush, although bush is a little extravagant a description. It came from Wilkinson's for £1.50. It was in a smaller pot and has been potted on using ericaceous compost. This compost is slightly acid and lime free and designed for plants like the blueberry. The plant has started throwing shoots out and appears to like its new home
