Tatties, rasps and chokes

The Jerusalem Artichokes are growing quickly now as you can see by the shot. They have grown very quickly. Last year I enjoyed them sautéed but I got a bad dose of the  botty birps ;-) no what I mean, I am looking forward to eating them again though

The raspberry bush is growing well too. the raspberries are plumping up and I am looking forward to eating them. This variety is Jonkheer van tets

The pot with the spud in has gone berserk. I do not know the variety and it just sprouted in the bucket. not even sure how it got in there to start with. It will be interesting to see what the spuds are like, if any

Buzzy bees every where

Planted the Achocha Fat Baby next to the fence and it looks fantastic, I am very happy with it. I have 5 others in 1litre pots though and I dont know what I am going to do with them

When I planted the achocha in its "usual" spot, I noticed all the self seeds from last year produce that didnt get picked. Not to big but they are growing and growing very well. I will monitor to see how they do

Lots of the Bees in the garden this evening, spotted maybe 9 or 10 seperate bees. They were on the raspberries "Jonkheer van tets", the chives and the Catmint "Nepeta Racemosa"

Pulled a radish "Oriental Rosa 2" tonight. It tasted well like a radish... superb and peppery, this one was grown in a tub, pulled out as a smooth as a hot knife through butter and a quick wash from the hose and it was ready

Weather report - sunny day, Wakefield, England, lots of bees in the garden tonight. Dont know which type of bees but not honey bees.

The Bushes are getting bigger

The blackcurrant bush I bought last month is growing very nicely indeed and shows lots of signs of life. The variety is "Ojebyn". It was little more than a stick when purchased with some small whitish buds on it and that was all

The redcurrants "Jonkheer van tets" are fattening up and I am just waiting for a little colour in them now

I had a bucket in the greenhouse and a potato leaf sprouted earlier on in the year, so I left it and it is now outside. I have no idea what variety it is but it is doing very well. Fingers crossed for some spuds.

Redcurrants - Jonkheer Van Tets, Chives and Cherries

The Redcurrants are coming on nicely and I am very impressed with them. I would have liked more on the bush but it is in a15litre bucket. So I will see if the crop improves next year.

Some of the chives in pots are already in flower too. I have 3 spots with Chives, so I will let these flower but I should nip them out and the others I will nip out

Lastly, I have a cherry tree here, grown from a stone last year. it is coming along nicely although I am not sure where it will go or what I will do with it. I will have a ponder about that one. This is one of two.

Rocket is rocketing and the parsley is curling

My small rocket plant has over wintered nicely and so has the curly parsley. I have them both planted next to each other in a fairly shady place and they seem to do great. The rocket does not bolt and the parsley keeps coming back

This is the Rocket and it tastes nice and peppery. Which is great.

The Jeruselum Artichokes are going from strength to strength, I left last years harvest in the ground and there is no holding it back this year

and my redcurrent Jonkheer van tets , the fruit is starting to appear ... although there isnt a lot of it

Ribes rubrum Jonkheer van tets

I am so happy to see my red currant flowering.  They might be small and uninspiring but to me this is a beautiful sight. A very welcome addition to the plant

I also recently purchased a blueberry bush, although bush is a little extravagant a description. It came from Wilkinson's for £1.50. It was in a smaller pot and has been potted on using ericaceous compost. This compost is slightly acid and lime free and designed for plants like the blueberry. The plant has started throwing shoots out and appears to like its new home

Redcurrant "Jonkheer van Tets"

This is the second year of the redcurrant plant. starting to sprout nicely in its bucket. Purchased at the beginning of last year, so I have high hopes of getting some redcurrants this year
