Lime Mint murder

Trimmed the Lime mint back this morning, as it was getting way out of control and starting to fall over. There isnt much left but it will soon be back in fifth gear growing quickly. It was standing at about 18inch before the trim and you couldnt see the bucket it was planted in. How times change

These are some Calendula growing in a tub, Last year had 1 plant I think in this tub and these are self sown plants. They are good for attacking greenfly eating insects, so they get to stay

Weather report - Sunny all day ,Wakefield, England and in Leeds and South Elmsall.

Of note checked my bee hive and could not find a queen still and I dont think there are any baby bees either. However spoke to a chap at the association and I am picking him up tomorrow to have a look at the hive, cast an experts eye over the issue.

The bees are looking healthy

Had a quick peak at the bees this afternoon, there wasnt much activity at the entrance so I just took the top off. No fears.... lots of bees as you can see

I still dont know if I am queenless yet though. I will do a full inspection next Sunday I hope. weather allowing


My peas are growing very nicely but no flowers yet. These are a mange tout variety called "bijou"

The mint in tubs are growing very well to. This is a lime mint

I have I think 6 varieties on mint in tubs like this including catmint "nepeta racemose". grapefruit mint, apple mint, pineapple mint and eau de cologne mint

Love is in the air

To say I do not like Lovage as I just find it does not have a purpose. Lovage seems to like my garden as it is now standing at nearly 6ft tall. I wish all my plant experiences were this successful. It is grown in a semi shaded spot getting sun only in a morning, not bad really

This is another one of my many mints. Ginger mint. it has yellow variegated leaves, I had trouble last year keeping the leaves variegated but I found keeping it in the shade kept the yellowness in the leaf

The comfrey is still in the pot and is unlikely to ever get out of it at this rate, in my opinion it is not growing to its full potential in the pot and seems to only be surviving. I have comfrey growing at my Fathers and that plant is in full blossom

On a final note. a little but of raspberry blossom, this is one of the plants in the tub

Goose gogs and Peaches

The apple mint as always is going bananas!!! it quickly grows and looks fantastic this time of year. I will shortly be cutting it back otherwise is goes a little to long and spindly

The gooseberries are coming along nicely. I have 2 varieties. a green cooker, which I have no idea what the variety is and a variety called Red Desert courtesy of Aldi. Red desert has some very nice plump berries growing and a green cooker has lots and lots of berries but they are still small

I think you tell the size difference from the photographs

And lastly my peach tree. The variety is Red Haven and it is grown in a 15 litre paint tub. It had one flower on earlier on in the year and is kept in the green house for the moment. It will be coming outside shortly as I want the greenhouse for other things.

Mint Difference

I am very happy with my Mint collections. It is growing very well but what surprises me is the difference in growth habit and how very similar mints grow differently.

I have a lime and grapefruit mint here. The lime shoots up with little leaf where as the Grapefruit starts in a with open leaves. These plants are in a quite shady spot in the garden but are about 13inch apart.

Mint Galore

The mint in the garden is growing really well. I have several pots of different types but here is a collage of the three largest pots of mint I have. There is Eau de toillet mint (smells fantastic), Apple mint and pineapple mint. I have quite a few other different types.
